Life has really thrown us some curves this last year.
So without going into great detail I will say this; we've had illnesses and we've had some bad times but we've been given a new grandchild, our daughter's home is getting closer to being finished,
our place in Yuma is coming along, and through all our adversities, we've found the that family and friends gather around you, and surround you with love and support.

Life is good when you have family and friends to share it with.

Hope to post some art in the next few days. I have my Halloween Fatbook pages finished for
my Altered_stART group on yahoo.
I'll be starting on my Halloween tags for that swap in the next few days.

Really could use some art to help heal my soul, right about NOW.Francinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3236456160542601794.post-32401715988743783342009-06-07T21:55:00.000-07:002009-06-07T22:20:01.431-07:00For Dee
Two and a half years ago, I met my friend Dee. We met at a shoebox party. There we were,
crafting the day away, in different rooms of a mutual acquaintance's home, when I noticed Dee
was wearing a Harley-Davidson sweatshirt. I told her I like her sweatshirt and that we should
be friends. She thought I was weird! Knowing her as well as I do now, I know what that look meant.

We exchanged numbers, and I thought, heck, she'll never call me. But she did. We ended up getting together to go stamp store shopping in a town about 30 miles away. We had a good time. Had lunch, got to know each other and it just felt good to be around her.

She invited me to go to a stamp convention with her, then to her house for another shoebox party to celebrate her birthday. She found out mine was three days later, and she included me in her celebration. We've been buds, ever since. Our daughters are about the same age, they too, like to do the same type of art and we just have a great time.
Dee always makes me the most wonderful gifts for all occasions that call for one. Her books are wonderful and she just has a great time making all sorts of different types of books and holders for fun things. Not always being sure of my own talent and art, I've been very hesitant to make her too many things. I made her a Christmas house for that holiday this year, and she loved it, so
I thought I would try my hand a something I really like to do, collage. This is what I made her this year for her birthday. I made it to match her new studio. She loves her gift, and I'm thrilled
that she does. Her friendship has meant the world to me. I feel very fortunate.

This is paper, paints and ribbon on canvas.Francinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3236456160542601794.post-8588813930859993752009-04-24T07:39:00.000-07:002009-04-24T07:46:07.786-07:00Life has regained some semblance of normalcy. We are better!

Now I can get on with life in general and my art.
To kick start this, I'm going to join in on ' pay it forward blog project'.

As part of the deal, in order to participate, I am offering this on my blog...I get something from someone with a promise to pass along the thought, so here are the rules:

The first 5 (five) people to respond will get something made by me.

This offer does have some limitations and restrictions, so please read carefully.

1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.
2. What I make will be just for you, with love.
3. It'll be done this year (2009).
4. I will not give you any idea what it will be. I will not give hints. It will be something handmade by me and will be a real tangible thing. It may very well be kooky or strange.
5. I reserve the right to make it as strange as I like, if I so desire.
6. In return, all you need to do is post this text on your blog (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) and make 5 (five) things for the first 5 (five) folks to respond.
7. Send me your mailing address--after I contact you. I MUST have a way to contact you. If you are on blogger, please make sure you have your email address in your profile. Please make this as easy on me as possible, I am a very busy woman these days.

Important: This offer is null and void if I do not see your post on your blog to pay this forward.Francinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3236456160542601794.post-25580552494423426242009-01-17T19:29:00.000-08:002009-01-17T19:49:51.543-08:00The loss of a my brotherThe picture to the right of this space is a picture of my
baby brother, Ernie and I in Monterey CA, 1955.
He always made me laugh. He was so funny when he
was little. Always had some way to entertain us.
We were such good friends, growing up. He changed when
he became a teenager.
We had a rough time at home and we relied on each other
for support, on a daily basis.

Yesterday was by far the worse day of my life.
I received a phone call from my sister-in-law, Jackie.
My brother had taken his own life the night before.
He was only 57, but he was a tortured soul and had
been, most of his life.
My heart is broken. Not only because he's gone, but
because there was nothing anyone could do. He wouldn't
help himself and any help we tried to give him, he rejected.
I could tell he was going deeper and deeper into depression.
Most of it brought on by alcohol abuse, an abusive relationship
with a girlfriend (he and his wife were estranged).

Hey, Ern, what was so terrible that you couldn't hang on and
make things work out? What was so wrong that it couldn't be
fixed? What was so wrong that you couldn't call me and let me
talk you out of what you did?

I will miss you so much. I can't believe you won't call me this week
and tell me about work or about your plans to move.
And we had just begun to be friends, again. Now its gone. I have
no brother, Julie has no uncle, and Jackie has lost her best friend.

Our hearts are broken, and are lives left in pieces, because
you are gone.

Be at peace, little brother, be at peace.
I love you,
SisFrancinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3236456160542601794.post-64827967591078159892008-04-06T21:29:00.000-07:002008-04-06T21:36:55.186-07:00Kings & Queens RR Altered Book 2

This is the second spread I did. Both my granddaughters
are artistic. I started letting them paint with me when they were
very young. They loved it.
Krista, the 15 year old, wore lots of paint, while Tiffany was a little
neat-nik. She would wipe her hands dozens of times while painting.

Both the girls started doing some scrapbooking a few years back
and loved it. Then Krista started doing ATCs with me. Tiffany
wanted in but at 9, I thought she was still too young to concentrate
on what we were doing. I was wrong.
She made ATCs all on her own.

Recently, she was watching her mom make some fatbook/chunky
book pages for a swap on my yahoo group, Altered_stART, and
decided to make an ABC fatbook. This is Tiff's first page. She did
this with help from no one.
The little plastic bubble over the button is a "googley eye".
She took it apart to get the desired effect she wanted. She also
took the time to look up the word 'Art' in a Spanish/English
dictionary, so she could add other elements to her piece.

I'm very proud of all my girls. What an interesting woman. I find her very intriguing.
She was smart in many ways, yet she was a bit flighty.

Kim chose her as the subject for her altered book. Thank you Kim,
I am much better informed of the French Revolution that I was when
I read a Tale of Two Cities in High School. No history teacher ever
gave us this much background on Marie.

You see, Kim's book, the original, is about Marie Antoinette.
I read all the pages that weren't already arted up. And when I went
on line to find out more about her and to get some images, I really
found some interesting information.

These two spreads were enjoyable to do.
'Feather Head' is actually the title to one of the chapters in the book.
Evidently you could Marie something she needed to do, that was
quite important and she would agree whole heartedly, then once
she was out of the room, she forgot or just went about her business
like the conversation never happened. Then when she was in
trouble for not taking care of her Queenly duties, she would barter
and whine until she got her way. Not because of the birds,
but because I wasn't sure if I should do just birds. Then, I'm a bird
lover and watcher. I sit at my computer and watch the birds come
to the feeders just outside the window. Some days all the birds will
leave and a Sparrow Hawk comes and sitson my porch rail, looking
for them.
We have woodpeckers, and many different varieties of local birds,
all winter long.
Spring and summer brings even more species and some beautiful
colors. Right now it's mostly the finches. Many different types
come to feed. We have three feeders and some suet feeders too.

The book is named "Birds of a Feather". So birds it is.

The first spread I did was painted, stamped & embossed on
canvas pad sheets. I had some fun with this spread. A friend
shared her bird children find with me and I knew I would
use them for this spread.
The second one is just an idea that came to me. I drew it out,
first then put the process in motion. Each leaf is cut out with
two types of scissors and stamped with three different colors.
Putting the spread together was what I enjoyed that the most.

It's a good experience and one I won't forget any time soon.Francinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3236456160542601794.post-53421558282423056962007-11-25T13:37:00.001-08:002007-11-25T13:40:11.926-08:00Beverly's Book

The second book is Beverly's and the theme is Life is a Metaphor. Life just gets too crazy sometimes. Seems like I never have enough time for anything. Especially art. It's been weeks since I've had a chance to sit at my table and really make some art.
Ever since I returned from my week long trip to CA I've been too busy. I spent 5 days helping my granddaughter make her Halloween costume. And I haven't even seen it on her. They said they took pictures, so hopefully I'll get to see it. Maybe even put some pictures up here.
It was a lot of work, but teaching my granddaughter some sewing basics was worth all the work we put into the costume. She really enjoyed sewing. I'm so glad. Because I discovered it at about the same age and made almost all my clothes in high school.

So today I'm heading out to my studio. I will finish putting some things away, take some photos and make some art. I hope!! I would truly like to spend the whole weekend out there.
Then I would have some art to post here.
Wish me luck!Francinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3236456160542601794.post-67231735021055607062007-09-17T09:43:00.000-07:002007-09-17T09:56:19.933-07:00Look at my Pretty!

After nine long years to rebuild, our motorcycles are finally done.
This one is mine. Didn't want the run of the mill layout. When the saddle bags are on, it will look even better.
Now I have to hope for the weather to stay dry enough to get some riding time before they have to be put away for the winter.

Just had to share my excitement.Francinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3236456160542601794.post-65020446769940122972007-09-14T08:10:00.000-07:002007-09-14T08:49:29.677-07:00Fall is arriving!Unfortunately, I can feel it in the air. Crisp clean smell of the air always tells me it's almost here.
I actually like Fall, just hate to see Summer go. If we could have two seasons these two would be the ones I would chose.
We really had a lousy Summer. Not as many nice days as we would have liked. And then it got real hot for a short period of time and all the natives started complaining about the heat. Good grief!! Can you tell I'm not one of the natives?
Motorcycle riding season will be gone very soon. I'm so sad. My bike never made it out of the shop for the season. It was being rebuilt after being in a fire. And because it's so old, '89, the parts are hard to come by. They thought it was ready yesterday and come to find out the new starter relay switch they got is bad. So now we wait for another one. I've had my hopes set on riding all Summer. It's been 9 years since the fire and with two bikes to rebuild, we had to take our time, financially. So my husband's is done and ready to go. I haven't even seen mine since the tin was painted and they put it back together. Can't wait to see it and get a picture of it to share.

Been working on some art for the last week or so. That and slowly getting things together in the trailer. Oh yeah and running off to garage sales with my friend Dee. Who calls someone at 7:30 am on a Saturday to tell them there's a sale and it's all rubber stamping stuff? My friend Dee! I didn't even hestitate, I rolled out of bed and got ready to go. We got some great buys! If we had had the room, I think we both may have boughten the stamp shelves they had for sale. No place to put them. So you know, we didn't just go to the garage sale, don't you?
We went to a stamp store and we went to a store where Dee introduced me to Brighton Purses. My friend Dee is a self proclaimed "Purse Snob". So now I own a Brighton. A small one, but a cool little Brighton purse. And this purse thing all started because we went to the Salvation Army Store and found a Coach purse and a couple of Dooney & Bourke purses. So I'm a new purse snob, I guess.

Back to my art. I made some tags for a swap on one group, a 4x4 for my group and 4 atcs for my group. All of them are Halloween. I love Halloween.

Here's the 4x4
Here's the front and back of the tags.

Can hardly wait to see what this tag book looks like. It should be fantastic.

I've also been working on an altered book for my very first RR. It's a local group and only 9 of us. But I'm a bit intimidated by the whole thing. I've got my inside front covered, and my sign in pages and tags. Mine theme is Travel- Back in time. I wanted to have a book on vintage traveling. It always seemed so romantic to me. Visiting far off places by boat or train. I'll post some pictures when I get my part finished.
I have way too many things I need to get done in a short period of time. So guess I better get started.....................Francinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3236456160542601794.post-22461268218789491552007-09-04T17:43:00.000-07:002007-09-05T14:48:56.754-07:00The Trailer

Most of the weekend, starting on Thursday, was spent cleaning out the trailer my mom used to live in. It was a grueling job, but had to be done. It's clean and it smells pretty good, considering she smoked in it for 6 years.
In the coming days I will be moving my studio out of our family room and into the trailer.
This could be pretty funny if one could actually see all the stuff I plan on moving into the trailer. But it has lots of storage and I can work uninterrupted out there, if I so please.

I have some pictures of the inside and outside. Inside pix are 'before' pix and the outside one is of how it has looked for about 2 months. I have flowers out there and a chair around the porch area.
As I move in, I'll try to show more pictures. Just hope my muse is ready to help me be as creative as I've ever been. Because I'm going to need all the help I can get.
Francinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12482408099403944340noreply@blogger.com6
